MATHEMATICS, MUSIC AND POETRY IN NATURE MAGAZINE AND IN THE CORRESPONDENCE OF SOFYA KOVALEVSKAYA AND J.J. SYLVESTER
Abstract
The article examines the relationship between music, poetry and mathematics in the sonnet of mathematician J.J. Sylvester, dedicated to woman mathematician S.V. Kovalevskaya. The poetic theory of J.J. Sylvester and its reflection in the sonnet are considered. In addition, the history of acquaintance of S.V. Kovalevskaya and J.J. Sylvester is traced.
