THE EMERGENCE OF SUFISM IN ISLAM: HISTORICAL AND SPIRITUAL ASPECTS
Abstract
The article is devoted to the study of the emergence and development of Sufism in Islam, starting from the period of the Four Righteous Caliphs and up to the formation of Sufi orders (tariqats). The article examines the historical, social and spiritual background of the emergence of Sufism, its connection with early Islamic practices and the reaction to the accumulation of wealth and power during the Umayyad and Abbasid eras. Particular attention is paid to key concepts of Sufism, such as zuhd (renunciation of the worldly), tazkiya (purification of the soul) and Muhabbatullah (love of God). The article also analyzes the role of Sufism in the development of Islamic spirituality, its interaction with the Sharia sciences and its influence on the formation of moral values in Muslim society. The importance of Sufism as a universal philosophy aimed at the inner improvement of man and the achievement of closeness to God is emphasized.
