Abstract
The article examines the methods of rendering reported speech in the novel by Omani writer Joha Al-Harthi and its translations into Russian and English. The relevance of the study is determined, on the one hand, by the interest to the expressive means in literary translation, exactly the ways of their rendering into Russian and English, which serve for the reader and the author’s interaction in a modern literary text. The material for the study is the novel by Omani writer Jokha Al-Harthi "Sayyidat Al-Qamar" and its translations "Nebesnye Tela" and "Celestial Bodies". The purpose of this study is to identify the features and compare the forms of reported speech in the novel and its translations. The novelty of the study is determined by the identification and description of the types of representation of the author's speech and reported speech in the text, as well as a comparison of the two translations. The article presents the methods of conveying reported speech in the Arabic version of the novel and the features of translation into Russian and English. Based on the analysis of the corpus of examples (about 200 sentences with someone else's speech, 6 were chosen as illustrative material), the main methods of conveying someone reported speech in the novel are highlighted. The results of the study reveal the features of the author's style of Jokhi Al-Harthi and reflect the difficulties of translating Arabic into Russian and English, thus contributing to the popularization of Arabic literature and culture in the world.
